Question 129: To ask the Minister for Finance if he has an estimate of the amount of cash held in households across the country that is not in bank accounts; if he has an estimate of the annual loss to the Exchequer from lost deposit interest retention tax and other taxes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have no information on the amount of money that is held privately in households, nor have I information on the amount of interest that is lost to such persons because they choose not to open deposit accounts for this cash. In the absence of this information, it is not possible to estimate how much Deposit Interest Retention Tax or other taxes may have been lost to the Exchequer.
