Question 76: To ask the Minister for Transport if he will provide a list of seaports here; his plans for modernising the country's seaports; if he is satisfied that there is sufficient shipping capacity for the medium to long term; if he is satisfied that all the seaports have management structures and financial resources to carry out their mandate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Central Statistics Office publishes a comprehensive annual report entitled "Statistics of Port Traffic". This report lists 21 commercial seaports in the State and also provides details such as all goods exported and imported through those ports. The report is available on the website of the Central Statistics Office, www.cso.ie The Ports Policy Statement, published in 2005, is the guiding policy framework within which our commercial seaports operate. In September this year I published a consultation document on a review of that policy statement.

The review provides an opportunity to consider all issues in relation to the sector, including the issues mentioned in the Deputy's question.

My Department is currently examining the submissions received during the recently concluded consultation period.
