Question 83: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government his plans to implement the recommendation of the report of the Independent Local Government Efficiency Review Group to reduce payroll costs in local Government, including the reduction in the number of county and city managers by 30%, directors of service by at least 20%, senior and middle managers by 15% and staff working in corporate services, planning and roads; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The findings and recommendations in the Report of the independent Local Government Efficiency Review Group, published in mid July, are being considered by me and by Government in the appropriate policy and financial contexts.

As recommended in the Report, I propose to establish an implementation group with an independent chairperson to oversee implementation of relevant recommendations.
