Question 501: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government his plans to reform the motor tax system to allow any motor tax office to issue a disk on behalf of an adjoining local authority; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [39154/10]

At present a local authority may only issue a licence for a vehicle which is in its own county area. The possibility of permitting a licensing authority to issue a licence without such restriction is one of the issues being examined in the context of the development of proposals for a revision and consolidation of motor tax law underway in my Department at present. In this regard, I hope to bring Heads of a Bill to Government in the near future.
