Question 132: To ask the Minister for Justice and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need for landlords and tenants to adopt the rent review arbitration code; the steps he is taking to ensure its adoption; when he expects the adoption of the code; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Rent Review Arbitration Code to which the Deputy refers was the subject of a recommendation of the Working Group on transparency in commercial rent reviews. That recommendation was for industry-wide acceptance, on a voluntary basis, of a code of best practice along the lines of the code which was appended to the report. As such, the code is already in the public domain and is available for use by those participating in the rent review process.

I have publicly endorsed the Group's recommendation in this area and I will shortly be in contact with bodies which were represented on the Group to encourage them to commit to the code.
