Question 473: To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the arrangements that cover the allocation of angling rights on the river Sullane in County Cork; the procedures that are followed and the consultations that take place in deciding the allocation; the person who is the current holder of angling rights on this river; the extent of the rights and their duration; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy may be aware the allocation of angling rights is a matter for those who own fishing rights on rivers. I understand that ownership of fishing rights on the River Sullane is fragmented, with stretches of the river both in public and private ownership.

I am advised that as far as can be ascertained the Macroom Fly Anglers Club is the only established angling club, which has operated on the river since 1922 with the agreement of local fishery owners. The Department has no role in the allocation of privately owned fishery rights.
