Question 134: To ask the Minister for Transport the level of funding allocated to Dublin City Council by his Department for the provision of cycle routes; the level of funding allocated for new bridges across the Liffey and Tolka to facilitate the S2S cycle route; if a value for money audit has been carried out in relation to this proposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has agreed to provide funding of €8.3m to Dublin City Council's Premium Canal Cycle Route, which includes the River Tolka crossing, to link the Route to the S2S cycle route. The Route will cross the Liffey using the existing Samuel Beckett Bridge. International studies on cycling investment suggest that benefits significantly outweigh costs. For example, a 2007 examination of the London Cycle Network by SQW suggested that the ratio is almost 4 to 1 over a thirty year timespan.
