The information requested by the Deputy regarding dependency ratios is not available at a county level for each of the past ten years. However, the breakdown is available at a NUTS3 level and is set out below. The data was derived from the annual Population and Migration Estimates releases, published in respect of Mid-April each year. For comparison purposes an additional table detailing dependency ratios in the European Union is included.

The young and old dependency ratios are derived by expressing the young population (aged 0-14 years) and the old population (aged 65 years and over) as percentages of the population of working age (15-64 years).

The total dependency ratio is the sum of the young and old ratios.
