I propose to take Questions Nos. 147 to 149, inclusive, and 151 to 153, inclusive, together.

The data requested appear in tabular form below. Cost-per-case data in respect of 2009 is not yet available.

The national average cost per case indicated for inpatients and day cases respectively is the casemix-adjusted base price when account has been taken of the resource usage of hospitals' workload and associated costs. This price takes into account all of the resources used in an episode of care including nursing costs, theatre, imaging and pharmacy. A total of 39 acute hospitals participate in the casemix programme and the activity in these hospitals accounts for 92% of admissions to acute hospitals as measured by the National Hospital Inpatient Enquiry (HIPE) system. The activity and cost data in any given year informs the allocations to hospitals two years later. Casemix Adjusted Base Prices 2003-2008
