Question 125: To ask the Minister for Finance the justification for a public authority, Ianrod Éireann, to charge prospective tenderers up to €930 per annum through a private company (details supplied) in order to register for receipt of relevant documentation for public tenders; the benefit that the tenderers receive for such a charge; his view on whether such a charge is inconsistent with the stated objective of opening public tenders to the small and medium enterprise sector; if he will ensure that such practices are discontinued immediately in view of the hardship they impose on the SME sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Iarnród Éireann is a commercial state body within the ambit of my colleague the Minister for Transport, with whom I will take up this matter. I am concerned to facilitate SMEs tendering for public sector contracts and this must be balanced against the costs of running the tendering competition. I will contact the Deputy in due course.
