My Department administers the Social Insurance Fund (SIF) in relation to redundancy matters on behalf of the Department of Social and Family Affairs. There are two types of payment made from the SIF – rebates to those employers who have paid statutory redundancy to eligible employees, and statutory lump sums to employees whose employers are insolvent and/or in receivership/liquidation.

As advised in response to the Parliamentary Question number 25240 answered on 15 June, 2010, it is still the case that, on the basis of valid claims entered in the Redundancy Payments System in my Department, there is no record of a redundancy claim having been received in respect of the individual in question. My Department has however received a number of claims for the company for which the individual previously worked which are currently being processed. In these circumstances, and on the basis that the individual believes he is eligible for redundancy, it would be advisable for the individual to contact his former employer who could, in turn, submit (or resubmit if that is the case) a claim to my Department.
