As the Deputy is aware, control of the facility referred to reverted to Waterways Ireland in March 2007 following the decision by the community council concerned that it was no longer feasible to operate. The facility is currently under way to the Royal Canal for use by Waterways Ireland in the commissioning works in advance of the proposed official opening of the Canal later this year. On completion, the facility will be used for operational maintenance on both the Royal and Grand Canals.
