Question 585: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills if she will allow a school (details supplied) in County Limerick to make emergency temporary appointments, despite the moratorium, in view of the fact that the school will not be able to function because it has lost half of its non-teaching staff in the past year and may not be able to maintain its caretaking and administrative functions for the 890 students in the school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Circular 0023/2009 outlines the impact on Community and Comprehensive schools of the Government decision to implement a recruitment and promotion moratorium in the public sector. As the Deputy will be aware, positions other than teacher and special needs assistant posts in schools and VECs, including the posts referred to which the Deputy refers, are comprehended by this decision.
