Question 551: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the number of applicants for the traditional farm buildings scheme from Tipperary North; if these applications have been processed or a time frame for same; the amount of grant aid being paid in total to applicants from the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under REPS 4, grants were available to carry out approved conservation works to the exterior of farm outbuildings and associated structures as a supplementary measure to the Scheme. The grant covers up to 75% of the cost of the works and grant awards vary from between €5,000 and €25,000. On that basis, the overall cost to the applicant of the smallest project that could be funded would be €6,700. The traditional farm building must have architectural or vernacular heritage character, make a contribution to its setting and not be overwhelmed by large-scale modern buildings. It is an objective of the Heritage Buildings measure that a reasonable geographical spread of grants across Ireland is achieved.

This scheme is now closed for new applications. The Heritage Council, which has responsibility for assessing applications on behalf of my Department, has informed all existing applicants that they will be notified of the outcome of their applications at the end of July 2010. `

The REPS 4 payment for the person named could not be processed until an issue relating to his Single Payment Scheme application has been addressed. My officials hope to resolve this issue shortly and the REPS payment application will then be processed.
