Under Transport 21, my Department has been funding the development of a network of Green Routes in Cork, in line with proposals developed in the Cork Area Strategic Plan (CASP). One of the Green Routes to be developed under the CASP is the Carrigaline/Ringaskiddy route. The Green Route Programme in Cork is managed by Cork City Council in both the City Council and County Council areas, and all funding for Green Routes whether in the City or County areas is provided to Cork City Council.
In 2009 I allocated funding of €200,000 towards preliminary works on the county section of this route which includes the road mentioned by the Deputy. In 2010 I have allocated €5.33 million to Cork out of a total allocation of €14 million for bus priority and park & ride in the regional cities. Funding has been provided for the projects set out in the following table.
Projects | Allocation € |
Ballincollig Green Route-County Section | 4,100,000 |
Carrigrohane Park and Ride: Stage 1 Phase1 | 850,000 |
Ballincollig City II/ Farranree Blackpool | 100,000 |
Green Route Improvements | 250,000 |
Green Route Performance Surveys | 30,000 |
Total Cork | 5,330,000 |
In deciding on allocations for 2010 my priority has been to focus on bus priority measures on routes with the heaviest usage during peak hours. While no further funding for the Carrigaline/Ringaskiddy Green Route was allocated in 2010, I am still committed to the completion of the Green Route projects as envisaged under the CASP having regard to overall funding availability, the level of demand for funding under the bus priority scheme and criteria for the allocation of funding.
