Transport 21 is the Government's multi-billion investment programme, which provides for investment in our national roads and public transport network. The objectives of the programme include improved accessibility, sustainability, capacity and integration.

The multi-annual Strategy Statement of the Department of Transport is a comprehensive and forward looking document that sets out the key goals, objectives and related strategies of the Department at the national level for all three transport modes - land, sea and air. The current strategy was published in 2008 and covers the period 2008-2010. My Department will prepare a new statement of strategy by the end of the year. Additionally the vision for a sustainable transport future for Ireland by 2020 was set out in the Government's Smarter Travel policy document, published in February 2009.
