Question 350: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the legal costs incurred to date by the publicly funded Commission as a respondent in a case (details supplied) lodged with the Equality Tribunal, such case now being closed, a decision notified to the complainant and respondent respectively by the Equality Officer assigned to the case and no appeal lodged to the Labour Court within the 42 day time limit; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Question 352: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the legal and other associated costs incurred to date by the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission as a respondent in a case (details supplied) lodged with the Equality Tribunal; if his attention has been drawn to the fact this case is now being closed and a decision notified to the complainant and respondent respectively by the Equality Officer assigned to the case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 350 and 352 together.

I understand from the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission that it incurred approximately €34,000 in legal costs in defending itself in this case.

As a matter of fact I believe it is appropriate to point out that the Equality Tribunal actually found against the claimant and in favour of the Commission in this case.
