Question 187: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the reason she removed cytamen solution from the list of eligible medicines under the general medical scheme; if her attention has been drawn to the hardship this has caused to persons with medical cards who are anaemic; if she will restore the medication to the list; if she will recommend an alternative generic substitute which medical card holders may obtain; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Health Service Executive has advised that there had been a supply shortage with Cytamen. Alternative arrangements for patients were put in place during this time. The supply issue has now been resolved and the drug is again available under the General Medical Service Scheme.
