Question 107: To ask the Minister for Finance the measures he plans to introduce for the farming sector to offset the increase in costs imposed on the sector by the carbon tax. [18777/10]

The application of carbon tax to Marked Gas Oil, which at times is referred to as 'green diesel' or 'agricultural diesel' came into effect from 1 May. The carbon charge in this instance is approximately 4 cents per litre and I do not intend any compensatory measures.

A number of Government Departments, including my Department are exploring options for how best to offset the impact of the carbon tax on low-income households. A number of options are being explored including improving the energy efficiency of low-income households which will help offset increases in fuel prices arising from carbon taxation.
