Question 420: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills the number and percentage of children attending national schools who are in receipt of English language support tuition by a school patron, in tabular form; and their numbers and percentage of the numbers of children attending national schools nationwide. In the current school year, there are over 1,180 EAL teachers (English as an additional language) at primary level providing support to about 32,200 migrant students for whom English is not their first language.
The level of detail sought by the Deputy in respect of each individual school would take some time to collate within my Department. My Department's Teacher Allocation Section is currently focused on the initial work for the allocation of staffing for the coming school year and I do not propose to divert them from this work at this key time in the allocation process.
