I strongly recommend that comprehensive credit worthiness checks are carried out by financial institutions, including credit unions, in relation to all loans. It is important that there are facilities available which record and give access to credit history information and help credit institutions to be well informed when making decisions on the provision of credit. However, the Irish Credit Bureau (ICB) is an independent, commercial organisation and I, as Minister for Finance, have no role in determining the operations of the ICB or the scope of its activities.

As regards the number of credit unions that are already members of the ICB this question is a statistical matter and I suggest the Deputy put the question directly to the ICB. The following link may also be helpful http://www.icb.ie/membership.php
