The industrial action undertaken by members of the Civil Public and Services Union and the Public Service Executive Union involved, amongst others things, the withdrawal of staff from public counters for some periods. It was a decision of management in those offices to close the office to the public on health and safety grounds.
The overall management response to industrial action is managed centrally by the Department of Finance with input from all Government Departments, including my Department, and other public service sectors. Any future industrial action will be closely monitored in my Department and the Department's management will continue to maintain contact with the unions concerned to ensure, insofar as possible, that the negative impact on the Department's customers is minimised.
