My Department approved funding in August 2008 to enable North Tipperary County Council award the contract for the Newport Regional Water Supply Scheme, and it is included as a contract to start construction during the period of the Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2012, which I published yesterday. The timing of the commencement of the contract is a matter for the Council. My Department is currently assessing the Council's application for loan borrowing to enable the Council to fund its share of the scheme costs. A decision on its application will be conveyed to the Council shortly.
