Question 180: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if his attention has been drawn to the problem caused by mink in the wild in areas such as Connemara, County Galway, where mink are killing lambs and causing destruction to sheep flocks; and his views on introducing a bounty on mink to encourage the trapping or elimination of this vermin due to the damage they are causing. I am not aware of any verifiable case of where lambs or sheep have been killed by mink. Fur farming is a licensed activity controlled by my Department. I have no plans to introduce a scheme whereby a bounty would be paid for the control of mink.
