Question 666: To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources if the merger of the central and regional fisheries boards into a single national fisheries board announced in annex D of budget 2009 has been completed; if not, when he expects to have it completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy may be aware the Inland Fisheries Bill 2009 was published on the 18 November 2009. The main purpose of the Bill is to facilitate the restructuring of the inland fisheries sector through the establishment of a new national inland fisheries body, which will be known as Inland Fisheries Ireland. This body will replace the existing Central and seven Regional Fisheries Boards.

The Bill was passed by the Dáil on 11 March last and has been referred to the Seanad for consideration. I look forward to the new body being vested soon after the enactment of the legislation.
