Question 395: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food his plans to introduce a compensation package for the horticulturist or nurseries industry which has lost a considerable amount of stock due to the recent weather conditions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Following a preliminary assessment of the crop losses caused by the severe weather conditions in January, I recently announced the introduction of a limited scheme of financial assistance to certain potato and field vegetable growers who have suffered significant losses of produce due to frost damage. It is not proposed to extend the scope of the scheme to include the nursery industry.
