Question 65: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the fact that medical card holders are being charged for medical reports which are sometimes required by applicants for driving licences or for renewal of driving licences in the case of older drivers; if such reports should be awarded free to medical card holders; her views on same; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The contract between the HSE and General Practitioners for the General Medical Services (GMS) Scheme stipulates that fees are not paid to GPs by the HSE in respect of certain medical certificates which may be required, for example, "under the Social Welfare Acts or for the purposes of insurance or assurance policies or for the issue of driving licences". There are no proposals to alter this provision.
