Question 147: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the action she has taken regarding the reorganisation of the National Consumer Agency and the Competition Authority; the proposed timeframe for the establishment of an integrated agency; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As both the National Consumer Agency and the Competition Authority were established under statute, it is necessary to give effect to the newly merged body by way of primary legislation. Work on the Heads of a Bill to provide for, inter alia, the merger of the two bodies is at an advanced stage. I expect that the Bill will be published during 2010.
