At the end of 2009 my Department estimates that 737,142 hectares of land was under forestry and that approximately 46% of this land is privately owned. 68,400 hectares of forest was licensed for harvesting since the year 2000, with the majority of this area being restocked. It should be noted that the period allowed for replanting is up to three years after the harvesting has taken place.

As outlined in the Renewed Programme for Government, the Government is committed to maintaining the annual target of 30% broadleaf planting.
