Question 42: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the investigations that are under way into allegations that a small number of gardaí may have been providing information to criminal gangs thus potentially jeopardising investigations and putting other members of the force at risk in view of comments made by the Garda Commissioner in Templemore, County Tipperary, on 29 October 2009; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I informed your colleague Deputy Costello further to a similar question from him in November 2009 that, according to the Garda authorities, a number of investigations in relation to breaches of section 62, Garda Síochána Act, 2005 were being conducted by the An Garda Síochána which, on completion, would be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for directions as to whether any charges should be preferred. I will write to the Deputy with an update as soon as possible.
