Question 171: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if there are plans to split up three-year adult education FÁS courses into three one-year courses in order that students will have to re-apply for the new and reduced allowances in view of Budget 2010; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I understand that the Deputy is referring to Community Employment Schemes.
There are no three year adult education courses on Community Employment (CE).
This Government will continue to support the positive role of CE in meeting the needs of long-term unemployed persons while at the same time providing essential services to communities. In this regard I am keeping the operation of the Scheme under constant review in the context of the current difficult unemployment situation.
