Question 88: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of sporting organisations that have made applications to the Garda Central Vetting Unit in 2009 for vetting of their prospective employees, or existing employees, as appropriate; the breakdown of these numbers by sporting organisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Garda Central Vetting Unit (GCVU) provides vetting for a large number organisations in Ireland which are registered with the GCVU and which engage personnel to work in a full-time, part time, voluntary or student capacity with children and/or vulnerable adults. I am informed by the Garda authorities that a total of 26 registered sporting organisations made vetting applications to the GCVU in 2009. The detailed breakdown sought by the Deputy is set out in the table below.
