Question 213: To ask the Minister for Finance the number of whole time equivalents serving in the Houses of the Oireachtas in the grades of Secretary General, Deputy Secretary General, Assistant Secretary General, Higher Principal Officer, Principal Officer, Higher Assistant Principal Officer, Assistant Principal Officer, Higher Executive Officer, Executive Officer, Staff Officer and Clerical Officer on 1 January 1998 and 1 January 2007, and the latest date for which figures are available in 2009 or 2010. Section 12 of the Houses of the Oireachtas Commission Act 2003 gave the Commission the power to determine its staff requirements and to appoint staff members except for staff at or above the grade of Principal (Higher), for which the consent of the Minister for Finance is required.
