Question 117: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he anticipates compensation for fur farmers will be required if the programme for Government commitment to proceed with a gradual phasing out of fur farming is approved by the Houses of the Oireachtas in the animal health and welfare Bill; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My officials are examining the legislative and other changes deemed necessary to implement the commitment in the revised Programme for Government to phase out fur farming over three years.
As many issues are still under consideration, it is not appropriate for me to comment further at this stage.
