Question 297: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if a person (details supplied) in County Mayo is entitled to compensation for the designation of their lands as a special area of conservation or a national heritage area in view of the fact that their REP scheme three participation has finished; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The designation of lands as Special Protection Areas or National Heritage Areas is a matter for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government in the first instance. Any farmer with designated land who is not in REPS can apply to the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government for compensation.
