Question 161: To ask the Minister for Transport the number of drivers that have lost their licences arising from incurring the maximum number of penalty points; the number whose licences have been restored or renewed since the introduction of the regime; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Since the commencement of the penalty points system in 2002 a total of 877 drivers have been disqualified from holding a licence having reached the 12 penalty points limit. The disqualification period has ended for 689 drivers and 188 drivers are currently disqualified.
