FÁS Training Programmes

Question 101: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if efforts have been made to create training courses funded by FÁS through rapid areas to the extent of €2 million in Dublin by the end of 2009; if this money has been spent; if so, the specific courses or training opportunities involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I understand that FÁS, in conjunction with local RAPID Groups, is organising basic training and work experience opportunities for 18 to 25 year old unemployed people from RAPID areas around the country. FÁS is investing €2 million nationally in the RAPID programme of which approximately a third is concentrated on schemes within the Dublin area.

Most of the initiatives have started and it is planned to have between 30 and 50 young people engaged in each RAPID area. The programme is scheduled for completion in April/May 2010 at which point it will be reviewed.

The table sets out the 16 programmes currently in progress in the Dublin area:
