Question 271: To ask the Minister for Education and Science, further to Parliamentary Question No. 586 of 25 November 2009, the reason the payment will not be backdated to September 2008 in view of the delays outside their control and the commitments given by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The qualifications for the teacher in question were recognised by the Teaching Council in October 2009. It is my Department's policy to pay the qualified rate to teachers from 1st September of the school year in which recognition has been obtained from the Teaching Council.

Accordingly, since the qualifications were recognised during the 2009/2010 academic year, salary at the qualified rate was backdated to the 01st September 2009 to the teacher in question.
