The Nursing Homes Support Scheme, A Fair Deal, commenced on the 27th October 2009. This is now the single system of financial support available to new entrants to long-term nursing home care in Ireland. Should the individual referred to by the Deputy wish to return to Ireland and avail of the scheme, he would have to satisfy the HSE that he is ordinarily resident in the State. Ordinarily resident means that you have been living in Ireland for at least a year or that you intend to live in Ireland for at least a year. The Information Booklet on the scheme can be downloaded from the HSE website at: http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/Find_a_Service/Older_People_Services/nhss/nhss.html.
