Question 191: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the position regarding elderly persons who need pendant alarms in view of the fact that the relevant scheme is closed; if they will have to wait until 2010 to send in their application; if there is a facility for cases to be expedited. Applications for support continue to be accepted by my Department under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People. In order to ensure an equitable distribution of available funds and allow for the installation of equipment before Christmas, Groups were encouraged to submit applications to the Department by 21st October 2009. Applications received after this date will continue to be processed subject to the availability of funds in 2009.

My Department continues to work with local community and voluntary organisations to ensure that equipment will be provided to those persons most in need as expeditiously as possible.
