Question 127: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the concerns expressed by the Garda representative bodies at the implications of proposed cutbacks on Garda services; the discussions he has had or plans to have on this issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is currently engaged in detailed discussions with the Garda associations on the need for savings in public expenditure and the continued delivery of an efficient and effective policing service.
It is also the case that expenditure levels for all the votes in my Department are currently being considered as part of the estimates and budgetary processes for 2010.The decisions on these issues will be a matter for the Government.
