Question 404: To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the specific clause he has identified which is at variance with the public sector pension policy and norms in relation to RTÉ pension discussions; the other specific aspects which need to be addressed in the matter of a 50/50 pension scheme for RTÉ employees; when the meeting to resolve the matter will take place; when he envisages a resolution; if he will recommend to RTÉ that relevant service will be reckonable from February 2009 when the scheme was due to begin; the reason his matter is not resolved after ten months. Approval of any RTÉ superannuation pension scheme is required under Section 91 of the Broadcasting Act 2009. A scheme submitted to me under this section shall, if approved of by me with the concurrence of the Minister for Finance, be carried out by RTÉ in accordance with its terms.

It would not be appropriate for me to comment on any of the specific aspects and/or clauses of this scheme, which are subject to continued discussions between my Department, the Department of Finance and RTÉ. I can reiterate to the Deputy what I stated on the record last week to Deputy Costello - that my Department is continuing to engage, as a matter of priority, with the Department of Finance and RTÉ in respect of those aspects of the scheme and every effort is being made by the three parties to ensure an early resolution of the issues. I also reiterate that the matter of reckonable service in respect of this scheme is a matter for RTÉ.
