Following an open tender process run by my Department for the provision of an emergency call answering service a concession agreement was awarded to BT Ireland Limited.
As part of the requirements of the tender, BT Ireland Limited, has contracted to build and operate an emergency call centre in Ballyshannon, County Donegal.
At this stage a site at Portnason, Ballyshannon, County Donegal, has been leased for the purposes of operating an emergency call answering centre.
The equipping of the centre commenced in October 2009 and is scheduled to be completed in January 2010. This will be followed by a period of testing the installed infrastructure and it is expected that the call centre will become fully operational during the second half of 2010.
