Question 291: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will establish with the Courts Service or other source the number of cases which have been prosecuted under section 185 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006 in relation to assaults or threats to members of the emergency services; if he has satisfied himself that the existing law is sufficiently strong to address these crimes, in view of the escalation in such cases, and that there is sufficient awareness of this legislation among judiciary. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the following table shows the number of proceedings commenced and convictions recorded for offences contrary to section 19 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994 as amended by section 185 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006.
