Question 1030: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the number of people it is envisaged will be recruited by him, in view of the commitment in the revised programme for Government to recruit 1,000 graduates across all Departments; the disciplines involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, a moratorium is in place in relation to promotion and recruitment in the public sector and it is against this background that the commitment to recruit 1,000 third and fourth level graduates to provide additional capacity and skills across the public service must be considered.

My Department is currently in discussions with the Department of Finance on the filling of a number of critical posts in the Department, which, because of the technical/scientific nature of the work, will require a third level qualification.
