Question 198: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her plans to introduce an incentive or grant for the manufacture of wind turbines here in view of the potential to generate wind energy here and the fact that all turbine parts are manufactured abroad; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The issue of wind turbines generally is a matter for Sustainable Energy Ireland which is under the aegis of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, and not one in which I am directly involved. However, Enterprise Ireland inform me that they can support the establishment of a business to make wind turbines subject to the normal commercial requirements of Enterprise Ireland grant aid, in accordance with the provisions of the Industrial Development Acts, 1986-2009. Enterprise Ireland will continue to offer a wide range of services, including financial and non-financial supports to companies with a business strategy that encompasses all elements required for business success. However, if the question relates to the establishment of wind farms, Enterprise Ireland is not in a situation to support such a development.
