Question 199: To ask the Minister for Transport the position regarding the extension of the Luas to Bray in view of the media reports that the proposal has been postponed due to the economic climate; the expected start date of when the extension will commence; the expected completion date; if he will give an assurance that he is still committed to Luas coming to Bray; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I remain committed to the delivery of the Luas extension from Cherrywood to Bray. The Railway Procurement Agency continues to progress planning and design for this project. The start and completion dates for this project will be determined by the outcome of on-going public consultation, the statutory planning approval process, the public procurement process and the availability of financial resources during the current difficult economic climate. The implementation of this project as currently proposed will also require substantial non-Exchequer funding, including levies from supplementary development contribution schemes and other developer contributions.
