Question 1005: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of occasions on which his Department has sanctioned or applied for the payment of a pension top-up or discretionary payment on retirement to a staff member of the Department or any agency under its remit in each of the past three years; the amount paid in each case; the position vacated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has not sanctioned or applied for the payment of a top-up or discretionary payment on retirement to any staff member of my Department in the last three years.
In relation to the agencies under the aegis of my Department, within the last three years one retirement was sanctioned in 2006 by my Department and the Department of Finance under the terms of Department of Finance Circular of 26 May 1998 on Severance and Early Retirement for Chief Executives of Semi State Bodies. The retiring CEO received 3.1 added years under the terms of the circular at a lump sum cost of approximately €11,000 and an annual pension cost of approximately €4,000.

Question 1006: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of staff who have been dismissed for misconduct, poor performance or failing to fulfil the terms of their contract from his Department in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [34356/09]

One member of staff in my Department was dismissed in 2006 for failing to fulfil the terms of their contract. No other members of staff were dismissed in the past 5 years.
