Question 434: To ask the Minister for Transport if he has reviewed the conclusions of the recent economic study on the taxi sector by the Taxi Regulator; his views on the fact that an over supply has emerged in the sector; the policy options that have been put to him in the course of consultations on the sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Commission for Taxi Regulation is preparing proposals for the further development and the improved regulation of the sector taking account of the response to the public consultation on the economic review commissioned by it. I understand that the Commission expects to finalise these proposals in consultation with the Advisory Council during August.

I will consider the outcome of this process and the views of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, the official representatives of the taxi industry, consumers and consumer interest groups insofar as they relate to my statutory responsibilities.
