Question 225: To ask the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Question No. 279 of 9 June 2009 and the subsequent response from the Health Service Executive of 23 of June 2009, her views on whether it is acceptable that a 76 year old person should be put on a waiting list of 18 months approximately before being assessed for treatment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The scheduling of patients for hospital treatment is a matter for the consultant concerned in each case and is determined on the basis of clinical need. Should the patient's General Practitioner consider that his condition warrants an earlier appointment, he/she would be in the best position to take the matter up with the consultant involved.
